Challenge & Solution
The Problem We Solve
The Challenge
When a Code Blue is activated or a patient's Potassium level reaches 6.5 mmol/L, speed is critical. Traditional manual paging takes 2-5 minutes to reach the right team. This delay causes poor patient outcomes and is a major NABH compliance gap.
The Solution
The Event Alerts module is the hospital's "911 Emergency Dispatch." It continuously monitors clinical and safety systems. The moment a pre-defined threshold is met (e.g., Critical Lab, Fire Alarm, Cardiac Arrest button), it uses priority-based broadcasting to immediately push the alert via visual pop-up, audible hospital speaker override, SMS, and phone call to the on-call team.
Key Features
What It Does

Configurable Clinical Threshold Engine
Admin interface to define thresholds for triggering alerts. E.g., Hemoglobin 99th percentile, Core Temperature > 39┬░C. Supports numeric ranges and qualitative flags (e.g., "Abnormal" in pathology).

Automated Multimodal Broadcast (Pop-up, SMS, Call)
Triggering sends a blast: (1) Full-screen alert on the target clinician's HIS screen, (2) SMS with the patient details, and (3) Automated voice call (IVR) to ensure physical ring-through.

Roster-Based On-Call Dispatching
Integrates with the Duty Roster module to know exactly which doctor/nurse is on call for that specialty at that exact moment. It routes the alert only to the on-call team, preventing "alert fatigue" for off-duty staff.

Escalation Tree & Acknowledgment
If the primary on-call doesn't acknowledge (click "Accept" in the app) within 60 seconds, the system escalates to the secondary on-call, then the HOD (Head of Department). Maintains a clear "Chain of Command" compliance log.

Geofencing & Location Services
Integrates with staff mobile app GPS to identify the location of the closest response team member. Alerts can include a map pin of the emergency location (e.g., "Ward 3B, Bed 12").
Workflow
How It Works
-
Step
1Step 1: Lab analyzer validates and releases a critical result (e.g., Serum Glucose 480).
-
Step
2Step 2: HIS event engine receives the result and checks the threshold rule (Glucose > 300 triggers Critical Alert).
-
Step
3Step 3: The engine queries the On-Call Roster. Finds the current attending physician for that patient.
-
Step
4Step 4: The Alert Engine fires a high-priority notification to that physician's mobile app and SMS. It starts an escalation timer.
-
Step
5Step 5: Physician taps "Acknowledge" within 30 seconds. Alert is cleared. If not, the system escalates to the ICU HOD within 60 seconds.

Operator Impact
What Changes for You
Cut Critical Response Time
Reduce from minutes to seconds.
NABH Accreditation Ready
Automates the critical "Time-to-Notify" documentation.
Prevent Cognitive Overload
Routes alerts to the right team, not everyone, reducing noise.
FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What happens if the primary doctor is in the middle of surgery and cannot acknowledge?
The escalation timer ensures the alert is automatically sent to the second on-call physician immediately, ensuring coverage.
How does the hospital physically sound the alarm for a Code Blue?
The module can be integrated with hospital PA (Public Address) systems and visual alarm panels (via IoT/API) to trigger the physical "Code Blue" announcement in the specific ward.
